Position : VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Engineer
Location : Vienna, VA - ONSITE
Duration : 6+ Months
Pay Rate : $50/hr W2 (no benefits)
Position Summary
The VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Engineer will provide hands-on technical support for the assessment, deployment, upgrade, configuration, migration, integration, validation, and documentation of the Customer s VCF 9 environment. The Engineer will work in collaboration with and under the technical direction of the Senior VCF Architect / Engineer to execute the approved VCF 9 architecture and deployment plan.
The Engineer will support implementation activities across applicable VMware compute, networking, storage, management, backup, replication, recovery, and hybrid-cloud integration components while assisting with technical troubleshooting and validation throughout the engagement.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assist with discovery and technical assessment of the existing VMware environment, including hosts, clusters, virtual machines, networking, storage, security, and integrations.
- Collect and document configuration, inventory, capacity, compatibility, and dependency information required for VCF 9 assessment and planning activities.
- Assist with VCF 9 prerequisite, compatibility, and readiness validation.
- Support validation of hardware, firmware, software, licensing, and configuration requirements.
- Assist with application and workload discovery and documentation of associated infrastructure dependencies.
- Assist with identification and remediation of source-environment prerequisites and compatibility issues required to support the approved VCF 9 transition approach.
- Perform assigned configuration and remediation activities required to prepare existing VMware infrastructure for VCF 9 deployment, upgrade, or migration.
- Perform assigned VCF 9 build, configuration, deployment, and upgrade activities under the technical direction of the Senior VCF Architect / Engineer.
- Assist with configuration and validation of applicable VCF management, compute, networking, storage, security, and supporting platform components.
- Assist with implementation and validation of approved lifecycle management, patching, and image-management configuration changes.
- Support implementation and validation of approved integrations with existing VMware and third-party technologies.
- Assist with validation of storage, backup, replication, and recovery dependencies associated with the VCF 9 environment.
- Assist with validation of applicable hybrid-cloud connectivity and integrations with Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Assist with workload dependency identification and document applicable compute, networking, storage, backup, replication, recovery, and integration requirements.
- Execute assigned migration activities in accordance with the approved migration methodology and under the technical direction of the Senior VCF Architect / Engineer.
- Perform migration of selected representative workloads and document migration results, issues, and exceptions.
- Perform pre-migration and post-migration infrastructure validation, including virtual machine status, network connectivity, storage accessibility, replication functionality where applicable, and basic service availability.
- Assist with validation of continued asynchronous replication of applicable workloads to the designated disaster recovery (DR) site.
- Assist with integration and interoperability validation associated with the existing array-provided synchronous replication solution between Campus 10 and Campus 12.
- Assist with validation of applicable backup and recovery functionality following migration.
- Monitor VCF platform health, events, alerts, capacity, and component status before, during, and following deployment and migration activities.
- Troubleshoot VMware configuration, connectivity, migration, storage, and interoperability issues and escalate complex architecture or platform issues to the Senior VCF Architect / Engineer.
- Maintain migration records, validation results, configuration changes, issue logs, and supporting technical documentation.
- Assist with development and maintenance of migration procedures, runbooks, validation checklists, architecture diagrams, and knowledge-transfer materials.
- Participate in technical reviews, implementation activities, maintenance windows, migration activities, and knowledge-transfer sessions.
- Follow applicable Customer security, access-control, change-management, and documentation requirements throughout the engagement.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- 1 3 years of hands-on VMware virtualization, systems administration, or infrastructure engineering experience.
- Foundational experience administering VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi, vCenter, virtual machines, clusters, networking, and storage.
- Familiarity with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) architecture, components, and concepts; direct VCF experience is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with VMware infrastructure deployment, upgrades, patching, lifecycle management, and platform health validation.
- Basic experience with or understanding of VMware workload migration technologies, including vMotion and Storage vMotion.
- Foundational knowledge of virtualization networking and enterprise storage concepts.
- Familiarity with backup, replication, recovery, and disaster recovery concepts within virtualized environments.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts, including VLANs, IP addressing, routing, DNS, NTP, and firewall connectivity.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or hybrid-cloud concepts is preferred.
- Ability to follow established implementation procedures, migration runbooks, validation checklists, and technical documentation.
- Ability to perform initial technical troubleshooting and escalate complex technical or architectural issues to senior engineering resources.
- Ability to accurately document configurations, migration activities, validation results, issues, and technical findings.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively under the technical direction of senior architects and engineers.
- Experience supporting regulated environments is preferred.
- VMware certifications or relevant technical certifications are preferred but not required
