Senior Data Engineer / Power BI Engineer - Investment Analytics
Location: Remote
Duration: 6+ Months Contract - Extension Possible

Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer / Power BI Engineer with 7+ years of experience in Business Intelligence and Analytics. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in Power BI, Snowflake, SQL, DAX, and dimensional data modeling, along with direct experience working with investment or asset management data.
The candidate will design, develop, and support enterprise-grade analytical solutions used by investment, risk, performance, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models.
- Develop advanced DAX, SQL, dimensional models, calculations, hierarchies, and reusable business logic.
- Develop and optimize Snowflake SQL for large financial and investment datasets.
- Work with investment, risk, performance, and operations teams to translate business requirements into scalable BI solutions.
- Optimize Power BI reports and semantic models for performance, scalability, usability, and maintainability.
- Troubleshoot complex issues related to data, reporting, semantic models, refreshes, and performance.
- Develop data quality, reconciliation, testing, and monitoring processes.
- Support source control, automated deployments, and CI/CD for BI solutions.
- Establish Power BI development, visualization, and reporting standards.
- Document technical designs, data models, business logic, and operational procedures.
Required Skills
- 7+ years of experience developing enterprise BI or analytical solutions.
- 5+ years of hands-on Power BI development experience in production environments.
- Strong expertise in:
- Power BI Service
- Power BI Semantic Models
- Advanced DAX
- Performance Optimization
- Data Refresh & Gateway
- Row-Level Security
- Expert-level SQL skills with significant Snowflake experience.
- Strong understanding of dimensional data modeling, including fact tables, dimensions, hierarchies, and SCDs.
- Direct experience in Asset Management, Investment Management, Institutional Investments, or Financial Services.
- Strong understanding of investment data such as:
- Portfolios
- Positions
- Transactions
- Securities
- Benchmarks
- Exposures
- Performance
- Risk
- Experience working with Portfolio Managers, Investment Analysts, Risk Teams, Performance Teams, or Investment Operations.
- Experience handling large, complex, and performance-sensitive financial datasets.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with both technical and investment/business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CI/CD, source control, automated testing, reconciliation, and data quality frameworks.
- Microsoft PL-300 Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification.
- CFA, CAIA, or other investment-industry certification.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale Power BI implementations.
