Manager feedback has been consistent that candidate communication and strategic thinking are more important than what we've seen so far. Candidates need to clearly articulate technical decisions, platform strategy, and business value, not just demonstrate hands-on ServiceNow experience.
This search is a shift toward the architecture and strategy side of ServiceNow. We can move slightly away from highly technical, hands-on developers and place more weight on communication, stakeholder engagement, platform governance, and long-term roadmap planning. Technical depth is still required, but it is no longer the primary differentiator.
Key areas to target:
- ServiceNow platform strategy and roadmap development
- Release and upgrade strategy experience
- Domain separation expertise
- Solution architecture and design
- Root cause analysis and complex problem resolution
- Ability to translate business requirements into scalable platform solutions
- Strong executive-level and client-facing communication
We should also revisit strong ServiceNow Solution Architects who can remain hands-on when needed but bring a more strategic and consultative approach. The ideal candidate can define the vision, communicate it effectively, design the solution, and help guide implementation when necessary.
