SR Power BI Developer
Houston, TX - Onsite
Our Client is seeking a Lead Power BI Developer. This highly visible role will translate complex commercial, operational, financial, and risk-management needs into trusted, intuitive Power BI solutions. The successful candidate will combine strong report-development expertise with business acumen, executive-level communication, relationship-building skills, and the ability to collaborate closely with database, data architecture, and business teams.
Responsibilities:
- Gather requirements with leaders/SMEs/end users; clarify priorities and success criteria
- Design, build, test, deploy, and support Power BI dashboards/reports/scorecards
- Create semantic models (star schema, relationships, reusable measures; calculation groups as needed)
- Develop DAX measures and Power Query transformations with performance/maintainability in mind
- Partner with database/data engineering teams on source requirements, data quality, and query optimization
- Translate ETRM concepts/data into insights (positions, exposures, volumes, pricing, P&L, risk, settlements, contracts, etc.)
- Lead demos, UAT, training, and production readiness
- Implement governance/security (workspace standards, RLS, documentation, lineage, controlled access)
- Monitor refresh reliability and performance; proactively improve/retire redundant reporting
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in IS/CS/Data/Finance/Economics/Math/Stats or related
- 10+ years BI/analytics experience, including 4+ years hands-on Power BI development
- Advanced Power BI skills (DAX, Power Query, modeling, performance optimization, UX/navigation features)
- Strong SQL and experience with large relational datasets (SQL Server and/or Snowflake preferred)
- Ability to work directly with leadership and translate ambiguous asks into deliverables
Preferred
- Energy/commodity trading, risk management, or ETRM/CTRM experience
- Microsoft Fabric / Azure data services / deployment pipelines / gateways / incremental refresh / dataflows
- Snowflake + dimensional modeling / DW / governance experience
- Agile/Scrum; Azure DevOps (or similar); source control practices
- Microsoft Power BI certifications
