Engineering Support Specialist (AutoCAD)
Our Substation and Transmission Engineering Support team is hiring an Engineering Support Specialist to contribute to multiple projects in supporting our electric transmission, distribution, and substations projects. If you are proficient with AutoCAD design and have experience supporting infrastructure projects related to utilities, manufacturing, or construction, we want to hear from you!
What Else Will You be Doing?
- Providing engineering support utilizing AutoCAD software for utility design projects
- Using drafting techniques and principles to draft, measure, draw, and revise plans, as-built and installation drawings according to field mark-ups while adhering to drafting standards
- Preparing schematics and wiring diagrams, and physical and mechanical layouts for substation projects
- Creating, preparing, and distributing design packages
- Assisting in developing and maintaining construction and design standards
- Providing support to substation engineers in the design and as-builting of protection and control drawings
- Ensuring as-builts and proper documentation of construction projects
- Reviewing and approving preliminary drawings and plans for compliance with engineering and design criteria
- Supporting engineers by communicating any work change directives with the project team
- Collaborating with Electrical Engineers, Designers, Substation Construction, Relay and Instrument Control, and additional internal and external departments
- Visiting project sites and work with field teams to develop solutions and corresponding designs
- Working with internal and external sources to get designs fabricated, reserve, or procure materials
- Supporting QA/QC for consistency on designs
Who You Are
- Demonstrated experience (typically two or more years) providing technical engineering support, preferably in the electric utility space (e.g., Substation, Transmission, Distribution)
- Associate's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical), CAD/Design, Engineering Technology, or a closely related field from an accredited university is required
- Formal education, training, or certification with AutoCAD is required
- Knowledge of substation electric schematics and wiring diagrams is valued
- Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively with a variety of groups with varying levels of engineering-related expertise, including field crews, engineers, vendors, consultants, and customers
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary work. Even though the weight lifted may be of only negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those is negligible. Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions and intense noises.
