About the job
Overview
The Senior Director of Technology & Managed Services is responsible for the strategic leadership, governance, operational performance, and continuous advancement of the organization's technology ecosystem, managed service offerings, cybersecurity program, and enterprise business systems.
This leader oversees technology operations supporting internal business functions and customer-facing environments, including Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, GCC High, cybersecurity, analytics, automation, infrastructure, enterprise applications, end-user services, and managed services delivery.
The Senior Director maintains strong technical credibility and active involvement in architecture, cloud strategy, cybersecurity, risk management, and critical technology decisions. The role is primarily accountable for executive leadership, organizational development, governance, operational excellence, and long-term technology strategy rather than routine administration or day-to-day technical execution.
Working closely with executive leadership, business stakeholders, customers, and technology teams, the Senior Director ensures technology investments align with organizational priorities, growth objectives, operational resilience, customer success, and regulatory requirements.
Primary Outcomes
- Establish and execute a scalable enterprise technology strategy and multiyear roadmap.
- Build a high-performing technology organization with clear accountability, empowered leaders, and effective succession planning.
- Ensure secure, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective technology delivery across internal and customer-facing environments.
- Mature managed services capabilities, service quality, customer satisfaction, and operational consistency.
- Strengthen cybersecurity posture, risk management, compliance, business continuity, and resilience.
- Reduce organizational dependence on any single technical leader by developing capable managers, team leads, and technical owners.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Business Partnership
- Develop and execute an enterprise technology strategy aligned with organizational priorities, customer commitments, and long-term growth objectives.
- Advise executive leadership on technology opportunities, risks, investments, operating models, and emerging trends.
- Partner with business leaders to identify technology solutions that improve operational performance, efficiency, scalability, and customer outcomes.
- Establish governance practices that support sound decision-making, resource prioritization, architecture alignment, and risk management.
- Lead technology modernization and digital transformation across the organization.
- Serve as a senior technology representative with customers, partners, vendors, and other external stakeholders.
Technology Operations and Service Delivery
- Provide executive oversight for infrastructure, cloud platforms, networks, enterprise applications, collaboration technologies, end-user computing, service desk operations, and managed services.
- Ensure technology services are delivered reliably, securely, efficiently, and in accordance with defined service expectations.
- Establish service delivery standards, operational metrics, service-level objectives, escalation models, and continuous improvement practices.
- Oversee major technology implementations, migrations, integrations, and modernization programs.
- Lead executive response and decision-making during major outages, security events, and high-impact technology incidents.
- Drive operational maturity through standardization, automation, documentation, knowledge management, and disciplined service management practices.
Managed Services and Customer Delivery
- Provide strategic oversight for customer-hosted, cloud-based, managed, and compliance-focused technology environments.
- Ensure managed services meet service commitments, customer expectations, security requirements, and contractual obligations.
- Partner with account management, business development, delivery leaders, and customer stakeholders to support retention, growth, solution design, and successful service transitions.
- Establish scalable operating models for supporting multiple customer environments with consistent governance, documentation, security, quality, and accountability.
- Serve as an executive escalation point for critical customer technology issues and significant service disruptions.
- Use customer feedback, service performance, operational data, and financial results to improve managed services delivery and customer experience.
Microsoft Cloud Strategy and Technology Governance
- Provide leadership and governance for Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, GCC High, Azure Government dependencies, and related cloud architecture initiatives.
- Ensure appropriate architecture standards, security controls, identity practices, tenant governance, and lifecycle-management frameworks are established for corporate and customer environments.
- Review and approve major architecture decisions, platform standards, cloud investments, tenant strategies, and technology roadmaps.
- Maintain sufficient technical depth to evaluate solution designs, challenge assumptions, mentor technical leaders, and guide critical decisions.
- Provide coaching and technical guidance to managers, architects, engineers, administrators, developers, analysts, and security professionals.
- Ensure day-to-day administration, troubleshooting, monitoring, and operational execution are assigned to capable managers, team leads, and technical owners.
Cybersecurity, Risk, Compliance, and Resilience
- Lead development and execution of the organization's cybersecurity and technology risk strategy.
- Oversee security operations, identity and access governance, vulnerability management, incident response, business continuity, and disaster recovery programs.
- Ensure effective governance of security capabilities across Microsoft cloud, hybrid, on-premises, and customer environments.
- Oversee risk assessments, remediation programs, security investments, and compliance activities supporting regulatory, contractual, and customer requirements.
- Monitor cybersecurity maturity and establish improvement plans addressing evolving threats, control gaps, and business risks.
- Provide executive leadership with clear visibility into material technology and cybersecurity risks, decisions, and mitigation progress.
Financial and Vendor Leadership
- Develop and manage technology operating and capital budgets, forecasts, investment plans, and financial priorities.
- Prioritize investments based on business value, customer impact, risk reduction, total cost, service quality, and organizational capacity.
- Oversee vendor selection, contract negotiations, service-provider performance, licensing strategies, and strategic technology partnerships.
- Monitor technology spending, cloud consumption, licensing utilization, benefits realization, and cost-optimization opportunities.
- Support financial planning, pricing, resource modeling, and cost-to-serve analysis for managed services and customer technology offerings.
Leadership and Organizational Development
- Build and lead a high-performing technology organization focused on accountability, collaboration, technical excellence, customer service, and continuous improvement.
- Develop leadership capacity through mentoring, coaching, succession planning, and deliberate delegation of authority and decision-making.
- Establish clear ownership, decision rights, escalation paths, performance expectations, and development plans across technology teams.
- Lead talent acquisition, workforce planning, organizational design, employee development, and retention initiatives.
- Empower managers and team leads to own operational execution and technical decisions within their areas while maintaining appropriate executive visibility and governance.
- Create an operating culture in which knowledge, administrative access, customer relationships, and critical responsibilities are distributed and documented rather than concentrated with one individual.
