Job Title: Sr Engineer AVD - Azure Virtual Desktop
Location: Phoenix, AZ / Chandler, AZ
Work Arrangement: 4 days onsite per week
Job Summary
We are seeking a Sr Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Microsoft endpoint management, and modern End User Computing (EUC) environments.
This position will be responsible for engineering, supporting, troubleshooting, and optimizing secure and reliable endpoint and virtual desktop environments. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with AVD, Nerdio, Intune, MECM/SCCM, Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, FSLogix, Azure, and PowerShell.
The role will provide advanced Tier 3/4 support, lead complex engineering initiatives, improve automation and reliability, and work closely with infrastructure, security, desktop support, and business teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineer, administer, troubleshoot, and optimize Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments.
- Manage AVD host pools, session hosts, golden images, FSLogix profiles, storage, performance, and user experience.
- Use Nerdio, Azure, Intune, MECM/SCCM, Active Directory, Entra ID, and Group Policy to manage endpoint and virtual desktop platforms.
- Support Windows 10/11 endpoint lifecycle management, application deployment, patching, compliance, and configuration.
- Support Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot modernization initiatives.
- Perform advanced MECM/SCCM software packaging, deployment, patching, and troubleshooting.
- Develop PowerShell scripts and automation to improve endpoint management, remediation, and operational efficiency.
- Troubleshoot complex endpoint, VDI, identity, application delivery, and user experience issues.
- Improve AVD reliability, security, monitoring, recovery procedures, and operational standards.
- Support AVD cost optimization, capacity planning, autoscaling, and performance improvements.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, diagrams, standards, and procedures.
- Partner with security, infrastructure, desktop support, vendors, and business stakeholders.
- Provide Tier 3/Tier 4 escalation support for complex technical issues.
- Support security, audit, compliance, risk management, and change management activities.
- Mentor engineers and support teams and promote consistent engineering practices.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in Endpoint Engineering, EUC, Infrastructure Engineering, Cloud Engineering, IT Application Support, or a related technical field.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Advanced hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
- Strong experience with:
- AVD host pools and session hosts
- Golden/master images
- FSLogix
- Azure storage
- AVD monitoring and troubleshooting
- AVD performance optimization
- Advanced experience with Nerdio, Intune, MECM/SCCM, Azure, and Windows endpoint management.
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Entra ID/Azure AD, and Group Policy.
- Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
- Experience with endpoint security, compliance baselines, patching, configuration management, and endpoint lifecycle management.
- Experience leading complex technical initiatives and working across multiple teams.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
