Interim Director of Research Computing

Seeking an experienced executive leader for an Interim Director of Research Computing position to lead organizational transformation, stabilize operations, and rebuild team culture.

• Location: Columbia, SC (Must reside in SC, NC, or GA, or relocate to SC prior to start)
• Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days onsite per week)
• Interview Process: 1 Round, In-Person

Key Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have (Required):

• 8+ Years Transformation Leadership: Proven track record in organizational change management and service delivery optimization.
• 8+ Years Project Management: Extensive experience leading large, complex technology projects.
• 8+ Years Team Management: Strong expertise in personnel supervision, executive coaching, and performance accountability.
• Education: Completed Bachelor’s Degree.

Nice-to-Have (Preferred):

• Technical Domain: High-Performance Computing (HPC), research cyberinfrastructure, high-speed storage, and networking technologies.
• Frameworks & Cloud: ITIL, AWS/Azure Cloud Infrastructure, and AI Infrastructure.
• HPC Tools: Familiarity with Slurm, Infiniband, or Carpentries instruction.
• Sector Experience: Managing organizational change within higher education.
• Advanced Education: Master’s degree in a science or technology discipline.

Core Responsibilities

• Oversee departmental operations and research technology infrastructure.
• Supervise and mentor managers, professional staff, and student teams.
• Optimize operational procedures by integrating IT service desk systems for ticketing and project tracking.
• Develop strategic lifecycle budgets, governance frameworks, and executive succession plans.
