Description

An Assistant Fire Protection Detailer will work dependently with the fire protection engineer in various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of proposal and construction documentation and Fire Protection plans as part of a project team. As an Assistant Fire Protection Detailer, you will provide drafting and design support for creating construction documents on various fire protection, fire alarm, and life safety systems.

  • Assist in performing a variety of routine assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, incorporating various system components, and refining rough sketches. Follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards.
  • Assist in producing complete PFDs and P&IDs from verbal or written descriptions from the design engineer.
  • Apply basic formulas, principles, and practices, and acquire knowledge of fundamental concepts and practices related to the fire protection discipline.
  • Work collaboratively utilizing design systems to produce Fire Protection design deliverables.
  • Assist with a full range of drawing production work, including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Assist with initial rough designs, sketches, redlines, or markups on ongoing projects.
  • Assist with analyzing reports, drawings, and tests and planning and designing projects.
  • Apply design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Complete and review design drawings within scope, budget and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
  • Incorporate schedules, budgets and project criteria into Fire Protection design and layouts.
  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in drafting technology or related field and 2 years related experience required. Or,
  • Associate Degree and 3 years related experience required. Or,
  • High School Diploma/GED and 4 years progressive detailing and design experience required.
  • Basic understanding of design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Excel to develop the design deliverables. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
  • Ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Basic knowledge in the theory and practices of engineering discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines related to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
