CTG is seeking to fill a Database Administrator IV opening for our client.
Location: Buffalo, NY
Duration: 12 months
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and technical architect for complex Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) solutions and enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Consult with application owners to analyze business requirements and recommend scalable, efficient database designs and enhancements.
- Develop database architecture and solutions aligned with business objectives, technology standards, regulatory requirements, and long-term strategic goals.
- Lead complex database enhancements, system conversions, performance tuning, production troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
- Evaluate database technologies, vendor products, and cloud data solutions, recommending improvements to performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Translate business requirements into functional specifications and technical designs; review database changes and support integrated testing.
- Oversee complex project plans, manage task dependencies, mitigate risks, and coordinate with technology teams, application owners, and vendors.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to less experienced database professionals.
- Support business continuity, audit readiness, internal controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements and company risk policies.
- Identify opportunities to improve database development, processes, standards, and technology solutions while minimizing risk and cost.
Scope of Responsibilities:
Work under the direction of a Senior Technology Manager, providing expert RDBMS guidance, solution design, and strategic technical recommendations. Contribute to departmental strategy, project execution, production support, and resource planning. Collaborate with technology leadership, architecture teams, application owners, and vendors while supporting staff development and serving as a technical representative on complex initiatives.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and training to less experienced staff. Guide database design, development, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and testing efforts. Coordinate technical activities and support project teams without necessarily having direct personnel management responsibilities.
Education and Experience Required:
- Associate degree and at least 8 years of RDBMS experience, or a combined minimum of 10 years of higher education and/or work experience, including at least 8 years of RDBMS experience.
- Strong SQL skills and expertise in relational database design, administration, and performance optimization.
- Experience with modern data architecture, such as Medallion Architecture, and cloud data platforms, such as Microsoft Azure and Snowflake.
- Proven experience leading complex database projects, system enhancements, conversions, and production issue resolution.
- Experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously, including project planning, task coordination, testing, and risk mitigation.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, decision-making, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to translate complex business and technical requirements into effective database solutions and collaborate across teams.
Education and Experience Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- At least 3 years of experience supporting banking applications, business processes, and database strategy.
- Previous experience in banking RDBMS support and familiarity with banking technology standards, business objectives, and regulatory requirements.
- Advanced knowledge of multiple RDBMS platforms, database tools and functions, and operating systems.
- Proven leadership and mentoring experience in database analysis, architecture, development, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
- CAPPM experience.
- Strong understanding of business terminology and the technical, operational, and business impacts of technology changes.
- Ability to foster teamwork, influence technical direction, and serve as a trusted advisor to business and technology stakeholders.
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.
