Java Engineer - Fixed Income eTrading Platform (Hybrid in NYC)

About the Role

We are partnering with a Tier 1 investment bank to build its next-generation Fixed Income and Rates eTrading platform-a greenfield initiative delivering a cutting-edge trading system at global scale. As a technology solutions provider, our engineering teams build high-impact client systems designed for scalability, integration, and operational excellence.

Around the platform's low-latency core sits a family of general-purpose applications and services that make the platform operable, connected, and scalable across a global trading business. In this role, you will build these critical Java services, integrating across Solace and Kafka messaging systems while collaborating closely with the platform's core low-latency and front-end engineering teams.

Location: New York City, NY (hybrid - 3 days/week office attendance)

While these services sit outside the ultra-low-latency core, they are vital to the platform's overall success, making this role a perfect fit for a practitioner who takes pride in software craft and building things right from day one.

Essential functions

What You'll Work On

• Greenfield Java Engineering: Build scalable, general-purpose Java services for the new eTrading platform from the ground up.
• Event-Driven Messaging Integration: Connect services across the platform and broader enterprise using Solace and Kafka messaging architectures.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with front-end engineers building trading UIs and low-latency C++/Rust engineers at the platform's core.
• End-to-End Delivery Ownership: Lead changes across the full delivery cycle, including architecture reviews, hands-on development, rigorous testing, and production deployment.
• Engineering Standards: Help establish high-quality engineering practices and standards on a greenfield project where clean habits are set from day one.

Qualifications

• Core Java Mastery: Strong core Java background with proven experience designing, building, and running mission-critical production services.
• Messaging Systems: Practical experience working with enterprise messaging frameworks such as Solace or Apache Kafka.
• Rigorous Testing Discipline: Deep commitment to testing and code quality, ensuring robust, production-ready software from the first commit.
• Autonomy & Communication: Clear, proactive communication with the independence to design solutions, own significant technical deliverables, and execute.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar field.

Would be a plus

• Domain Knowledge: Fixed Income, Rates, or broader electronic trading (eTrading) and capital markets experience.
• Front-End Familiarity: Basic understanding of modern front-end technologies (React/TypeScript) to streamline backend-to-UI integration.
• Enterprise Banking: Prior experience working within global investment banks or large, highly regulated enterprises.
