About the job

We are seeking a Senior Building Mechanical Engineer to provide expert consulting, design, and engineering services for a diverse set of industrial and manufacturing clients. In this role, you will serve as the lead engineer for HVAC, plumbing, sanitary sewer, and fire protection systems, guiding projects from the initial study and proposal phase completely through construction and final client turnover.

As a self-driven leader, you will oversee design staff, collaborate in a multi-discipline environment, and seal construction documents as the Engineer of Record.

Key Responsibilities

Lead System Design: Develop comprehensive design documents, drawings, and submittals for HVAC, industrial plumbing, sanitary sewer, and fire protection systems.

Fire Protection Expertise: Design fire protection systems, including fire water storage and pumping systems, while navigating complex hazard classifications and secondary mitigation methods.

Project Lifecycle Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously from preliminary planning and scoping through field check-out, installation, start-up, and commissioning.

Client & Proposal Execution: Meet with clients to define project limits, write detailed project scopes, conduct engineering studies, and develop precise construction and engineering time estimates.

Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary project teams and clearly present building mechanical scopes in both in-person and online group meetings.

Quality & Compliance: Perform field surveys, shop inspections, and vendor expediting to ensure strict adherence to performance, fabrication, and building code specifications.

Engineering Review: Oversee drafting and detailed design work executed by design staff; seal mechanical construction documents when appropriate.

Qualifications & Requirements

Industry Experience: In-depth knowledge and proven engineering experience with HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design specifically within industrial and manufacturing environments.

Core Credentials: Must possess at least two (2) of the following (having all three is a major plus):

  1. 10+ years of responsible engineering experience in the noted fields.
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  1. Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration.

Code Mastery: Thorough understanding of applicable mechanical standards and building codes for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Familiarity with facility insurance carrier requirements (FM Global) is a significant benefit.

Software Proficiency: Working knowledge of computer software applications for engineering, including Navisworks, AutoCAD, and Revit.

Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills, with a track record of delivering effective presentations to clients and technical groups.
