About the job

At CesiumAstro, we are developers and pioneers of out-of-the-box communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and cross-functional work environment, which allows us to learn, develop, and engage across our organization. If you are looking for hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work, CesiumAstro is the place for you. We are actively seeking passionate, collaborative, energetic, and forward-thinking individuals to join our team.

We are looking to add a Senior Test Engineer to our team. In this role you will lead the planning, execution, analysis, and documentation of functional, integration, qualification, and acceptance testing for hardware and integrated systems. This role contributes to successful product verification by leading complex test activities, resolving technical issues, and ensuring system performance satisfies engineering, customer, and contractual requirements.

Working cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, RF, software, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, the Senior Test Engineer functional testing, system integration, qualification activities, verification, and production readiness.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop test procedures, verification plans, instrumentation strategies, and automated test configurations supporting complex qualification and acceptance activities.
  • Lead test planning by evaluating hardware configurations, software baselines, instrumentation requirements, and facility capabilities to ensure program readiness.
  • Determine test methods, success criteria, and verification approaches that align with engineering requirements, customer specifications, and contractual objectives.
  • Lead functional, integration, qualification, and acceptance testing while directing test execution, monitoring system performance, and resolving technical issues during testing.
  • Evaluate test data, identify failure trends, and perform root cause investigations to determine corrective actions and support engineering decisions.
  • Validate corrective actions through repeat testing and verification activities, ensuring issues are fully resolved before product release.
  • Lead coordination with electrical, mechanical, RF, software, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to resolve technical issues affecting verification and qualification activities.
  • Develop comprehensive test reports, verification records, discrepancy documentation, and technical recommendations supporting configuration-controlled hardware.
  • Lead Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), engineering investigations, and failure analyses by presenting technical findings and corrective action recommendations.
  • Manage laboratory equipment, instrumentation, automated test systems, and calibration activities to ensure test readiness and data integrity.
  • Evaluate configuration management, ESD controls, FOD prevention, and AS9100 quality requirements while recommending process improvements that reduce technical risk.
  • Develop improvements to test methodologies, laboratory operations, automated test processes, and verification efficiency across multiple projects.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with 5-8 years of related experience, or a Master's degree with 3-6 years of related experience, or a PhD with 0-3 years of related experience in test engineering, systems integration, product verification, hardware validation, or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of functional, integration, qualification, and acceptance testing methodologies.
  • Experience developing test procedures, verification plans, instrumentation strategies, and automated test solutions.
  • Proficiency with operating oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, digital multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, automated test equipment, and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Understanding of configuration management, ESD controls, FOD prevention, verification methodologies, failure investigations, and AS9100 quality standards.
  • Experience evaluating complex test data, identifying failure trends, and developing technical recommendations supporting engineering decisions.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment when leading verification activities, resolving complex technical issues, and evaluating system performance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Laboratory instrumentation and data acquisition software, e.g. LabVIEW, MATLAB, NI TestStand, or equivalent applications.
  • Engineering documentation and collaboration tools, e.g. Windchill, Jira, Confluence, or equivalent applications.
