Position Overview

Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) is seeking a Staff or Field Engineer, Geologist, or Environmental Scientist to support field investigations and sampling activities in the Kennesaw, Georgia area.

This position is ideal for a hands-on professional who enjoys working outdoors, collecting accurate field data, and supporting environmental and geotechnical projects. Working under the direction of experienced project managers and technical professionals, you will conduct soil and groundwater sampling, document site conditions, and assist with interpreting and reporting field findings.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct soil and groundwater sampling following project-specific procedures and quality standards.
  • Support subsurface investigations, site assessments, and groundwater monitoring activities.
  • Assist with soil boring observations, soil classification, and documentation of subsurface conditions.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain field sampling and monitoring equipment.
  • Maintain accurate field notes, sampling records, photographs, and chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Coordinate sample handling and delivery with laboratories and project teams.
  • Assist with reviewing field and laboratory data and preparing technical reports.
  • Communicate project progress, site conditions, and potential concerns to project managers.
  • Follow project health and safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
  • Travel to project sites throughout the surrounding area as assignments require.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or related engineering field
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience (internships included)
  • Basic understanding of federal/state environmental regulations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience conducting field investigations, particularly soil or groundwater sampling.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain complete, accurate documentation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively with a project team.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
  • Experience with environmental consulting, geotechnical investigations, or site characterization.
  • Familiarity with soil logging, monitoring wells, field instruments, and laboratory sampling procedures.
  • EIT, GIT, or applicable professional credentials.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training, where relevant to assigned projects.

Travel Requirements

This position requires travel (20% - 50%) as part of its primary responsibilities.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Combination of office and fieldwork
  • Ability to travel to project sites and perform outdoor work in varying conditions
