About this Job
- This position is responsible for assisting professional engineers and/or higher-level technicians in the performance of drafting, design, survey, and/or water resources work in District Design Office.
- Must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.
- Will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Utilizes a thorough knowledge and understanding of Department procedures, policies, standards and specifications in the drafting or designing of construction plans, plan changes, and/or contracts and specifications. DOTO engineering policies and procedures apply to normal work situations in the District Design Office and/or in the field. Uses CADD and other engineering-related software programs to complete engineering drawings and/or surveys. Plots and drafts are very complex engineering and/or surveying drawings using computer and drafting software. Calculating very complex quantities. Attends required training classes and receives on-the-job in performing materials sampling and/or testing. Keeps certifications current in Materials Testing Specialty areas.
- Attends required training classes and receives on-the-job training in performing engineering design and/or survey work. May also provide on-the-job training or assistance to newer or lower-level technicians.
- May serve as an assistant to the water well, dam and/or levee inspector. Helps inspect dams, water wells and/or levees to find and report any deficiencies or code violations. Meets with well and/or dam owners, levee boards and/or local officials to discuss water well, dam and/or levee Issues and to offer recommendations for connecting violations discovered during Inspection.

- Engineering Technician 1- Starting salary is $1120.00/bi-weekly
- Engineering Technician 2 - Starting salary is $1282.40/bi-weekly
- Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $1468.00/bi-weekly
- Engineering Technician 4 - Starting salary is $1680.00/bi-weekly
Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of $2.00/hour for every hour worked.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 7:45 am - 4:15 pm, Monday-Friday
