DOTD is seeking an experienced engineer to serve as the Construction Coordinator for transportation initiatives through construction project delivery, field engineering, construction documentation, contractor coordination, and review of work performed in accordance with DOTD standards and specifications.
This role plays a critical part in advancing DOTD's mission by supporting the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews.
Professional license to practice engineering is required - training is provided with opportunities for career advancement.
This position is located in Lafayette Parish and reports to the ADA Engineering.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:
Two years of licensed engineering experience; or
Six years of professional engineering experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience.
A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience.
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of professional engineering experience.
There is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.
NOTES:
Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience.
Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.
Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.
Louisiana Professional Engineer licenses are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at;br>SUPPLEMENTAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of licensed engineering experience performing reviews of construction plans and applications for permit approval; or
Six years of professional engineering experience performing reviews of construction plans and applications for permit approval.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Provides expert-level technical review of plans, specifications, estimates, calculations, reports, consultant work products, construction documents, or other engineering deliverables.
- Recommends engineering policies, procedures, standards, specifications, manuals, design guidance, or technical processes related to the assigned specialty area.
- Provides technical assistance and consultation to DOTD leadership, districts, sections, consultants, contractors, federal agencies, local governments, public entities, or other stakeholders.
- Manages, coordinates, or supports complex engineering projects, program activities, or specialized assignments to ensure work is completed within applicable scope, schedule, budget, quality, and compliance requirements.
- Reviews, develops, or administers consultant contracts, scopes of work, task orders, man-hour estimates, invoices, amendments, or technical contract requirements related to assigned engineering work.
- Provides functional or project guidance to lower-level engineers, engineer interns, engineering technicians, consultants, or project teams in the assigned area of expertise.
- Researches, evaluates, recommends, or implements new technologies, methods, systems, tools, or best practices to improve engineering program delivery, safety, efficiency, or technical performance.
- Provides expert technical guidance related to construction-related engineering issues.
- Performs or reviews change orders, RFIs, and related project documents.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including emergency or disaster support activities.
Position-Specific Details:
Compensation: This position qualifies for a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $4,324.80 Bi-weekly / $54.06 Hourly.
Appointment Type: This position is open to only current DOTD employees; and may be filled by detail to special duty.
